The Katy Trail Connection to Pleasant Hill, MO

Pleasant Hill, MO has always been known for its rich history dating back before the civil war. But today more people are getting acquainted with its small town charm thanks in part to the linking of Pleasant Hill to the 240 mile trail  across Missouri bike, hiking and jogging .

The Katy trail is built on the former railroad corridor for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Railroad which became better known as The Katy.  The railroad eventually ceased operations to along a 200 mile Bike Trail Pleasant Hill, MOcorridor which caught the eye of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.  The acquisition of the trail was made possible by the National Trails System Act which basically states that if rail service no longer operates in the corridor the property could be used by the state as a space for recreation.  The  National Trails System Act stated that if the rail companies should need corridor in the future that it could still be utilized on an interim basis.

With the constant expansion of the Katy Trail bikers and hikers alike will be able to travel the entire state of Missouri from east to west.
